The One Piece Day event back in July 2023 wasn’t focused entirely on the property but some of Eiichiro Oda’s other works as well. It was revealed during the event that their Monsters one-shot manga from the Wanted collect will be getting an adaptation. This is considered a canon property to One Piece as it ties into a character from the Thriller Bark storyline.

Netflix set a January 2024 premiere for the adaptation as Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation and with it out for a bit now, they’re doing some new promotion. The latest is the clip below in multilingual form where Ryuma has spoken his truth.

The project has Sunghoo Park directing it and working on the script for it. Park’s new production studio, E&H Production, is handling the work for it as well. It looks like this is a single-episode and old-school style OVA essentially.

The Japanese cast includes:

  • Yoshimasa Hosoya as Ryuma
  • Kana Hanazawa as Flare
  • Hiroki Tōchi as Cyrano
  • Mitsuaki Madono as D.R.
  • Katsuhito Nomura as Master

Plot Concept: MONSTERS takes us back in time to the story of the samurai Ryûma. Years before, a dragon horn with magical powers was stolen, and the samurai finds himself caught up in the catastrophe around that dragon’s horn, and the devastating appearance of a dragon in town…
